'Fortune and Glory: The Cliffhanger Game' Revised Edition

This brand new Revised Edition of the popular adventure game released on April 18th.  This comes with 4 Exclusive Promo Cards (German SMG, Down for the Count, Tommy Gun, and "I Don't Think So!")

The wildly popular Pulp Adventure board game Fortune and Glory is back with a brand new Revised Edition! A best-selling game since its first release in 2011, fans and new players alike have been clamoring for its return, and this new Revised Edition hits the mark! With a more compact box size, streamlined Rulebook, and over a decade's worth of polish and errata worked in, this is the ultimate version of this classic Cliffhanger adventure game.

Overview

Fortune and Glory, The Cliffhanger Game is a fast-paced game of high adventure, vile Villains, edge-of-your-seat danger, and Cliffhanger Pulp Action. Players travel the globe in search of ancient artifacts, fending off danger and Villains at every turn in a quest for ultimate reward. So strap on your adventure boots and goggles, fire up the engines on the seaplane, and grab some extra ammo for your revolver, the Nazis already have a head start and in this race for Fortune and Glory, there's no prize for second place!

Revised Edition

This new Revised Edition of Fortune and Glory includes a revised Rulebook, including updated rules for Temples, and errata from the last 13 years since the original was released.  We cleaned up some card layouts, making some small text easier to read, redesigned the Game Box and Vac Tray for a better size and aspect ratio to fit on your game shelf (and the new tray can hold a lot of additional material).  The Game Board has been updated to a "six-fold" style to fit well in the new box.  We created new Die-Cut Tokens for "Fortune" and "Glory" which stack easily and are more clearly defined in size between the 1-piece and 5-piece coins.  We included handsome new deluxe 16mm dice in pearl Gold and pearl Steel colors.  This new edition is fully compatible with previous expansions and card supplements.  We believe that this new edition is the best version of the game and are excited to get it into the hands of long-time fans of the game, as well as brand new players just discovering it!

Gameplay Breakdown

Each player takes on the role of a pulp adventure Hero, hunting down ancient artifacts around the world and collecting Gear and Allies to help overcome the various Enemies, Dangers, and Villains that stand in their way. During each Game Round the Heroes roll off to determine the First Player then all get to Move (starting with the First Player), and then all get to Adventure (starting with the First Player). There are two resources in the game, Fortune and Glory. Heroes collect Glory by defeating Enemies and overcoming Dangers and then spend that Glory to Heal wounds and buy Gear and Allies. They collect Fortune by recovering Artifacts and selling them in cities.

In the Competitive Game, players race against one another to be the first to collect 15 Fortune. In the Cooperative Game, all of the Heroes work together toward a larger collective Fortune total as they race against a Vile Organization played by the game itself.

  1. Spectacular experience with friends but not for everyone

Posted by Unknown on 31st Dec 2024

This game is great and I'm a sucker for anything this publisher puts out.

It's a storytelling game that you play while having a few drinks with your friends.

I love how you race around the board trying to gobble up all these pulp adventure artifacts.

If you're looking for a game with tight rules or you're super competitive, this isn't for you.

If you're looking for a great time and some laughs with friends, this is it.

  2. Poor quality of inlay and "coins", no real "upgrade", no CD, signs changed

Posted by A Guest on 12th Dec 2024

I bought the original game 2013 and I am very happy with it. The material is great and you have plastic coins for "Fortune" and "Glory" in a superior quality. Then there was a CD with the soundtrack. And, of course, the typical iconography of the nazis.

Then there is the "Revised Edition". I carefully read all cards and the "new" rulebook, but with a polishing of the temple mechanic and here and there a new wording (a better difference between hits and wounds) the quality is a real downgrade: only lousy cardboard coins with the frogs' logo on one side, no CD (of course, most of the gamers don't use CD's, but it was a unique feature of Flying Frog), no new cards, the nazi iconography changed to something unidentifying (should it be the reichsadler?), the inlay thin as a piece of paper (and broken on two locations when the game arrived) and no real places for all the different tokens. $100 is too expensive for this; no more than $70 are advised.
The only "benefit": you can get the game again, if you don't own it already. For this 2 stars.
If you can get the non-revised version instead, grab it!

  3. Great! Yet, a minor upgrade from the original.

Posted by austinseven on 26th May 2024

Fortune and Glory is one of my all time favorites, and I’ve collected over 100 games in the past 4 years.

Even though I’ve played the original around twenty times, it’s difficult to tell what’s been changed outside of some obvious tweaks. As others have stated, the Fortune tokens and Glory tokens are now cardboard (we will continue with the originals). The card material is a lot more durable and the improved print quality of all of tokens and boards is a welcome improvement.

The core game is still so good, even if the context of challenges gets a bit wild sometimes (ie: You’re in a deep jungle, in a temple, sneaking past nazis, rendezvousing in a nightclub, in a car chase, flying an airplane, then ending in quicksand).

We usually play cooperatively and the rules could still use some clarification, but the game does feel fairly balanced.

    Gameplay 5/5
    Components 4/5
    Rules 3/5
    Replay 5/5

  4. I mean, it’s Fortune & Glory

Posted by Unknown on 20th May 2024

This game had literal legendary status before the reprint. It’s Indiana Jones the boardgame with an over-the-top production. I really don’t know how you weren’t expecting it to get 5-stars. An adventure boardgame brimming with fun.

  5. Fortune & Glory Revised Edition

Posted by Dennis on 7th May 2024

The game arrived safely and on time.

All the components and cards for the game are excellent quality.

Another excellent product from Flying Frog productions.

  6. I wish I could give it 5 stars

Posted by Thomas on 5th May 2024

This is an extremely fun game if you like Ameritrash storytelling games. However, I am disappointed on at least two fronts.

First, for a revised edition, I had hoped that the rulebook would have undergone an additional round of editing. It has not. It remains unclear and poorly laid out in many parts. The information is there, but frequently not next to the other relevant information and it takes longer to track down than it should.

Second, and most disappointingly, unlike the earlier edition, this one does not have plastic Fortune and Glory tokens, instead being reduced to using cardboard. I know that's a production cost issue, but for a game that depends so heavily on it's table presence, this is a massive downgrade. There's no longer the satisfying feeling of having a bunch of coins in your hand - instead it feels like any other cheap boardgame, and at a three digit price tag, this game ain't cheap. Still, this means this version of the game is just worse than the original. The 3d skull tokens are nice but they don't make up for the fortune and Glory tokens.

Finally, and I know this is just personal preference and did not actually expect them to change, but it still doesn't make sense to me that "fortune" is the victory points you accrue to win and represented by gold pieces of cardboard and "glory" is the spendable resource you acquire and then spend on gear and equipment and uses blue pieces of cardboard. It would make so much more sense to reverse those: glory is victory points, fortune is money.

  7. Great game with a couple missed opportunities

Posted by Loren on 1st May 2024

Let me start with, this is probably me and my wife’s favorite game. The game still looks amazing and the wait for the revision was worth it.
The only complaints we have are:
    1. The change to the Nazi iconography. The game is based in the 1930’s and the iconography should represent the period. The cards themselves still show the standard nazi symbol in the background, but it has been removed from the more obvious locations. It looks like they only did half the job, if they wanted to remove it, remove it everywhere, or just own it and trust customers not to be marshmallow morons. No one we play with is so stupid as to think we are promoting nazism with a game.
    2. In the original game (yes we have both, so we know what was originally included) the vile organizations showed the iconography on the back of the organizations cards. This made it easy to find the card you needed. Now they are identical and you cannot see which vile organization unless you turn them over.
Besides those few changes the game is still a hoot and a half to play and is always one of the beat times we can have with a game.

  8. Arrived early and looks great!

This game arrived a full week before the expected release date! The box is a great improvement on size and everything inside looks awesome.

  9. Best Adventure Game Out There

Posted by Mike on 28th Apr 2024

I love this game in all of its campy glory. I played the previous version and let Joye’s it very much, but this newer revised version is even better. Rules are streamlined for simpler play. Characters and villains are super. This is one of my all time faves and it only got better

  10. Awesome revised edition

Posted by Chris on 18th Apr 2024

Just received this in Australia and it’s an absolute treat! Loving the quality, and the skull tokens are perfect! I’m looking forward to merging the expansions from the original game into this revised edition - guess I know what I’ll be doing this weekend!

I’ve heard that the folks at Flying Frog were legends with their customer service, and my first order with them was no different. Thank you for your kindness!
