This is a beautiful Art Book to accompany the Shadows of Brimstone game. It gathers artwork from across the Shadows of Brimstone products, including illustrations, concept sketches for game miniatures, Hero Portraits, Enemy Illustrations, Gear and Artifact illustrations, and Pro-painted miniatures photographed in 3D game environments. Also includes notes and commentary from Art Director Jack Scott Hill, Designer Jason C. Hill, and Artist Brian Snoddy. The center of the book features an interview with Cover Artist Ralph Horsley and shows his step-by-step process of painting the cover illustrations for both City of the Ancients and Swamps of Death! This is a wonderful addition to any fan's Brimstone Collection.

I enjoyed this glimpse into the beginning

I am late to the party on this book but I am glad I picked it up. The early concepts and art really drew me into the aesthetic of the game. This book gives me a great idea on where and how the art style foundations were laid. While I dont think every piece is stunning, I do see the value in each one. This was a good purchase and I got exactly what I expected.

I was being too harsh. It's a pretty good book with some really fantastic art. Nice to have so much of it all in one place.

Mostly dissapointed

I have wanted this book for years and as soon as I opened it I was completely let down.
I am not sure exactly what it is but I really don't like the format here. It's really hard to tell when an image is complete or if it has been cropped. The diagonal and purposefully messy dividing lines between the art mostly distract and cover up parts of the work. The art I am most interested in, the sketches, is the worst section in the book. Every image is zoomed way in gigantic and cropped. To make it worse they have been mashed together in an unappealing collage style that ruins both drawings. It's like, they are intentionally hiding the details when what I have paid for ARE the details. Very poor layout choices. I was going to immediately put my copy on eBay but I only paid $10 for it second hand so meh, I guess I'll keep it.
In summary, the art we have seen the MOST, such as the Core Set box art gets the largest sections in the book, and the art we've seen the least of, the sketches, is just a tragedy.
Don't recommend. =(
