Shadows of Brimstone: SWARM PACK #3 Void Spiders
An Enemy Swarm Pack is a new themed set of cards focusing on fighting swarms of a particular Enemy Type, as well as a new set of Spawners for that Enemy Type. In this case, the pack focuses on fighting large swarms of Void Spiders, and a grouping of Egg Sacks that spawn new Void Spiders during a Fight. Also includes Enemy Record Sheets for OtherWorld variants of Void Spiders, with the stats and modifiers worked into the Enemy Record Sheet itself, as well as new themed Elite Charts and Brutal sides for these variants. This set also includes a new Mission themed for the swarms of Void Spiders, Burn ‘Em Out!
Models are Thermal Plastic Miniatures manufactured in the USA. Models are supplied unassembled and unpainted.

A Fun Expansion That Makes Void Spiders Feel Like a Threat

The Void Spiders Swarm Pack is a fantastic way to add even more excitement and variety to your Shadows of Brimstone adventures. If you enjoy playing Hexplore-style campaigns, this expansion is a great opportunity to introduce a memorable side objective and make your worlds feel even more alive. Rather than simply adding more enemies, it expands on the Void Spider theme with new swarm mechanics, egg sack spawners, themed elite charts, and OtherWorld variants that make every encounter feel more dynamic.
One of my favorite additions is the "Burn 'Em Out!" mission. It gives players a satisfying objective beyond simply surviving the fight, and I really like that you could even make it up to permanently remove Void Spiders from your campaign if you're successful. That kind of lasting consequence is exactly the sort of campaign progression that makes Shadows of Brimstone so enjoyable, giving your heroes the feeling that they've genuinely changed the world through their actions.
The new enemy variants and spawner mechanics also make encounters far more cinematic. Instead of facing a predictable group of spiders, you're constantly trying to keep the infestation under control before it overwhelms the party. It's a great example of how a relatively small expansion can significantly change the feel of an encounter.
If the Flying Frog designers happen to read reviews, I'd love to see this concept expanded even further in the future. An XXL Spider Queen accompanied by a few XL Spider Guards would make for an incredible centerpiece battle and really elevate the entire Void Spider storyline into an unforgettable boss encounter.
The only reason I'm giving this four stars instead of five is the value. The price feels a high for what is included, especially when compared to some of the larger gameplay expansions. I'm also not a huge fan of the thermal plastic material. While it certainly gets the job done, it can be a little more difficult to work with during assembly and cleanup than traditional hard plastic, particularly when preparing models for painting.
Even with those minor drawbacks, this is an excellent expansion that adds meaningful campaign content, memorable encounters, and a fun long-term objective for Hexplore campaigns. If your heroes have ever dreaded hearing the skittering of Void Spiders in the darkness, this pack is well worth adding to your collection.
